MU Working Memory Lab Online Studies for Children 1st thru 7th Grade
ATTENTION! We currently have enough sign-ups to complete our study for grades 3rd thru 7th and are no longer accepting new sign-ups. 1st and 2nd graders are still invited to participate until the total number needed in this age/grade group is reached.
This is an ongoing study that began Monday, April 25th.
If your child has already participated, we thank you for your participation and look forward to seeing you for future studies.
If your child has NOT yet participated in this study, we encourage you to review the information below for study details and to determine your child’s eligibility. If this participation opportunity is right for you, please sign up for an open time slot. We appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you online.
Children in grades 1st or 2nd, supervised and/or assisted by a parent/guardian, are invited to participate in an online 2-Session Study with a Researcher using a secure University connection and Zoom teleconference link. Each session will be about 60-75 minutes. You can sign up for the first session below. The second session can be scheduled at the end of your first session. Both sessions must occur ideally within 14 days or less.
Study Start Date: Wednesday, April 13th
Projected End Date: Sunday, October 23rd or Until Completion
NOTE: Participants may only participate in this specific memory game one time.
Study Name and Description:
MEMORY FOR SOUNDS AND COLORED SQUARES
In this study, participants will be asked to remember colored squares and sounds presented together or separately. When a single colored square or sound is presented, participants must determine if it’s the same or different from the ones that they just seen or heard. A puzzle task or a number recall task will be administered at the end of each session.
The following are required in order to participate:
A stable Internet connection
A desktop or laptop computer with webcam and audio capabilities is required. iPads or other tablets cannot be used due to their incompatibility with Zoom remote control functions needed to administer the program.
Please use an audio system (over-the-ear headphones; earbuds; integrated speaker system; external speaker system) that provides your child with the best sound quality and can be adjusted for volume.
This study cannot be completed on an iPad, tablet or cell phone due to program requirements.
Children who are currently in 1st or 2nd grade
Children must reside with the parent providing consent
Children must reside with their parent within the United States
Children who have normal (20/20) or corrected-to-normal vision (glasses, contacts) including normal color vision
Children who have normal or corrected-to-normal hearing
Children who have fluent comprehension of the English language
Children who have the ability to attend to and respond to flashing objects and sounds or tones without experiencing adverse side effects
Due to the flashing presentation of items, it is recommended that anyone with an epilepsy diagnosis refrain from participation. Due to the presentation of tones, it is recommended that anyone with a sensitivity to sounds or persistent repetitive sounds refrain from participation.
Purpose of the Study:
To determine how age and developmental stage affects ability to remember and recall visual and auditory information.
$15.00 for each session provided via Venmo or PayPal OR we can send via standard mail to your residence. Since this study requires the responsibility of keeping track of a second appointment, we offer an additional $10.00 incentive (Session 1 = $15.00; Session 2 = $15.00 plus the $10.00 incentive = $40.00 TOTAL).
